Furniture Care & Maintenance Guidelines
To maintain the beauty and longevity of your furniture, please follow the care recommendations outlined below.
Regular Cleaning
For routine cleaning, use a soft microfiber cloth lightly dampened with warm water. This method is sufficient for most cleanings and helps preserve the finish of your furniture.
Polishing & Cleaning Products
For occasional use, you may apply a furniture polish or cleaner to enhance the sheen of your piece. We recommend Guardsman furniture care products, which are specifically formulated for genuine wood surfaces. Avoid standard furniture polishes, as many contain silicone that can degrade the finish over time and cause a cloudy buildup on the surface.
Surface Protection
Do not use paper towels or abrasive materials, as these can create fine scratches.
Always use placemats, trivets, or coasters to protect the surface from heat and scratches.
Avoid placing excessively hot cookware or objects directly on the table.
Cleaning Agents
Do not use harsh or commercial-grade cleaners such as bleach, ammonia, or other strong chemicals, as these may damage the finish and underlying wood.
Environmental Conditions
Position your furniture away from heat sources such as radiators, heating vents, or direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure to dry heat can cause the wood to dry out, leading to potential cracking or warping.
If your furniture will be stored for an extended period, ensure that it remains in a climate-controlled environment with humidity levels maintained between 35% and 45%. Exposure to humidity outside this range may result in splitting, cracking, or warping.
Writing & Everyday Use
When writing or performing other tasks on the surface, use a protective pad or desk blotter. While harder woods such as quartersawn white oak are highly resistant to impressions, softer hardwoods like brown maple may show indentations if unprotected.
Finish & Durability
All of our products are finished with a catalyzed conversion varnish, providing a durable, scratch-resistant coating. However, this finish is not scratch-proof. To prevent surface abrasion, lift items rather than sliding them across the surface. Over time, dragging objects may cause micro-abrasions, especially on darker finishes.
By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your furniture retains its beauty and performance for many years to come.
